First post, need help

Hey folks, first post, am wondering if anyone has an answer to a problem I'm having. I have an Ingersoll 4016 with a 60" deck that keeps throwing the belt that runs the blades. I've had two different shops look at it, works for a week then throws the belt again. Any ideas? Thanks, Moon.

Welcome to the forum Moon! Right off, I suspect that you have two or more pullies out of alignment to each other or a pully that is bent. Is it tearing the belt up, or just tossing it? Is it also tensioned correctly?

Thanks for the quick response. It's not hurting the belt and I believe the tension is correct, but while I'm here how tight should the belt be? Moon.

moon Welcome hows things in Ohio? I agree with TB.If the pullies are out of a line you should see some weird wear on one or both sides of the belt. Is it the drive belt? If it's the drive belt it will probally be out of line, due to deck height pully and motor pulley height and will have sighns of wear on both sides of the belt. Did you buy the mower new? Has it always been doing that? And have you checked to see if the drive belt is the right one OEM if you bought it used? If you bought it used, go back to the orignal belt lenth and routing of the belt, check the tensinor to make sure it's not hanging up and letting the belt have slack and jumping off Seen mowers that have belts that are close to the lengths on orignal but a 1/2 makes a big diference.

Id say somethings out of wack as suggested. Id pull the deck off, and get a level- make sure the pulleys are level and not bent- and slowly spin them around - if ones bent or out off center- itll wobble. Also make sure the berings arent worn- if you have any seriously worn berings- itll make the mandrel pulley wobble as well.

What width is the belt? Is it correct for the tractor? Does it sit fully into the pulley groove or does it ride on/near the edge?

Does the deck come with belt retainers around the mandrel pulleys? If the deck twists over rough terrain the belt can come off the pulley . Also make sure all the idler pulleys actually rotate and everything moves like it should.

O.K. Lets get started. How are things here? WET. If it quits raining now it will be June before I can fish the Muskingum river. Yes it is the drive belt but I hav'nt seen any wear. No,I did'nt buy it new but it's just started this last year. I bought a new belt and made sure it was the right one. THANKS for all the tips, I'll pull the deck off this weekend and try to get to the bottom of this. Thanks again, Moon.

THANKS GUYS !!!!! Turns out it was an easy fix. When the deck was up it was level but when I lowered it to mow it was way off. A little bit of work and I've got my mower back. Thanks again!! Moon.
