Drive Belt Replacement Question

I have a 18.5 hp 46" Murray Model 46103x92A and need to replace the motion drive belt. I removed the deck and am trying to follow the directions in my manual, but cannot remove the belt at the rear of the lawn tractor. The manual says to remove the pin from the gear selector rod and slide the belt over the mechanism, but I do not see how this can be accomplished. I also have a parts diagram, and it still is not clear how the belt is to be removed and replaced. There is a rod extending from the transaxle to a bracket that is in front of the rear pulley. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum murray1, I have a little Murray 12.5X30" but can't help you, though I am sure that there are a couple of really smart Mower guys on here who will jump in very soon (2 days max)
Cheers

I got it replaced, but not by using the manual. Can't anyone write instructions any more? The steering column was a lot easier getting off by accessing it from the bottom. For the rear, I took off the shifter spring and mounting plate to get the plate off of the shaft going to the transmission. What a poor design. It lasted 12 years though, so most people probably never replace the motion belt. I also had to replace an idler pulley.

Any pics of this tractor? It wouldnt be easy per say, but shouldnt have to tear the tractor apart - my 'black' series murrays with the c channel frame ( have the twin steering arms) i didnt have to remove anything to replace the belts.

I will take a few pictures next week since I live in Missouri, but my farm is in Illinois. In the back, there is a rod that is directly in front of the rear pulley that makes it impossible to remove the belt in the back. In the front, the steering stem interferes with removing the belt.
